A roadmap to a life and career you love

Imagine a career roadmap, where you feel aligned with your values and lifestyle.

Where your professional life fits in with your personal life (and not the other way around!).

A place where you thrive, not just survive, as a woman in medicine.

Sounds good, right?

All of this is within your reach – you just have to see the bigger picture.

What is it that you actually want?

You don’t have to answer that right now. It’s a big question – but one that we all need to explore as women in medicine.

Too often it’s easy to get caught in the system, wondering why you got into medicine in the first place, wondering if being consumed by work is even worth it anymore.

Where we can find satisfaction in our careers, knowing that our personal values align with our lives in medicine.

A place where, together, we figure out the balance you need.

This was such a thoughtful and relevant course

Quite wonderfully, it has also allowed me the privilege of learning these insights about others. Including participants from different areas in medicine at different stages of their careers has really helped to highlight shared experiences and challenges; both personal and workplace.

It’s great to have you here!

I’m Dr Jo Hely, the founder and Career Coach of Insight Medical.

Dr Jo Hely sitting by a window

I have over 30 years of experience in the health system, and in that time I’ve seen it all. As a specialist medical administrator I’ve worked with doctors across a broad range of specialties and in that time I’ve noticed a pattern emerging in women doctors (myself included).

We often have difficulty saying no (when that word should be a complete sentence in itself!), which leads to an endless struggle between doing the career we love (and have worked hard for!), and living a life that, well, we can completely enjoy.

During my career I’ve discovered, tested, and now understand the power of setting boundaries, of normalising the quiet discussions about career doubts, of making the system a kinder place for women.

This is a chance for us to learn from one another. I don’t have all the answers, but I do have the experience, resources, tools, and knowledge to help you navigate the system in a way that works for you.

This is where we connect, reflect, and ask ourselves, “What is it that I actually want?”.

The small groups made for a really personal and intimate experience with some wonderful, kind, inspirational and like-minded women.
I’d highly recommend TBP to any women in medicine, regardless of their career progression.

Are you heading in the right direction?

Maybe you’re feeling….

Connect. Share. Learn.

The Bigger Picture is a place to meet others and explore topics with a network of like-minded women doctors. Together, we’ll explore each topic, highlight shared experiences, and learn from a range of different specialties and career journeys.

Simply put, you’ll chat with others who truly ‘get it’, while focusing on creating the balance between life and career that you long for.

I believe that what you want, what you truly want, is possible – and wanting something is a legitimate reason to explore it.

Jo led this course in a way that was thought-provoking but also very practical. I loved hearing about other women’s journeys and sharing this experience with them. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to better integrate their career into their life.

What’s your experience and qualifications?

I’m a specialist medical administrator with over 30 years experience in the health system.  As a doctor myself, I understand firsthand the challenges for women in medicine.

I graduated from the University of Newcastle, and my formal qualifications are BMed, DipRANZCOG, MHA (UNSW) and FRACMA.

Are the sessions private and confidential?

Absolutely. In fact, unlike some other online courses, none of our sessions are recorded or available for replay. This is a private, intimate group, where we are safe to share our challenges and explore all options.

When do the sessions take place?

Your 1:1 30-minute session can be booked with me from a range of times, simply choose what’s convenient for you.

Our Zoom sessions take place once a week, on a Thursday evening.

What happens if I can’t attend a session?

Because these calls are private for all participants, there unfortunately isn’t a recorded session you can watch. If you need to miss a session (life happens!), we always do a short recap at the beginning of the next session. You’ll also be able to do the exercises in the workbook yourself.

It’s possible to take control and enjoy the career you chose – even if it’s different than what you thought it would be.
